 [![Resident Evil SNES development](https://www.nintendoreporters.com/storage/files/resident-evil-eigenlijk-voor-snes.jpg "Resident Evil SNES development")](https://www.nintendoreporters.com/storage/files/resident-evil-eigenlijk-voor-snes.jpg)Before Resident Evil went to the PlayStation, it was in development for the SNES.

Resident Evil is a well-known series of horror games with many parts, and spin-offs. The first part appeared on the PlayStation in 1996. The horror series might have been at one time also started on the SNES, according to an interview with **Game Informer** with **Koji Oda** , director of the newly announced Mega Man 11.

When Oda just started at Capcom, he was hard at work on Resident Evil for the SNES;

> Frankly, I feel that I have entered the industry at the best time. Games typically took half a year, no longer than a year to develop, so I had to take the feeling that I was able to participate in many different projects. It is not well known, but before Resident Evil went to the PlayStation, I was working on it for the Super NES.

> This was even before the name Resident Evil was even given. The code name for this was literally only “horror game”. On the SNES we worked with a limited hard drive space, so it was not like we could stop a movie in it. I’m sure the game would have been significantly different if we had actually completed it on the SNES. The game was originally placed for example in a place that had nothing to do with the reality but was rather a hellish place.
