Drainus is a side-scrolling shooting game set in a future planet ruled by the Kharlal Empire. Irina, a slave born on the planet Halpax, returns home when her father is gravely sick. She encounters Ghenie, a time-traveling frog-form, and learns that a cosmic battle is about to commence. She commandeers Drainus, a spacecraft capable of absorbing and reflecting enemy assaults, and sets off with Ghenie to topple the Kharlal Empire and locate her father.

Drainus is a refreshing take on conventional shooters. The player, like “Ikaruga,” can only absorb light energy strikes. These absorbed energy bullets build up in a meter before being discharged as a counterattack. Some energy bullets are also stored in energy tanks and utilized for shooting varieties, secondary attacks, and shield upgrades, providing for a diverse range of play styles.
