[![Early leavers Rocket League heavily penalized](https://www.nintendoreporters.com/storage/files/vroegtijdig-verlaters-rocket-league-zwaarder-bestraft.jpg "Early leavers Rocket League heavily penalized")](https://www.nintendoreporters.com/storage/files/vroegtijdig-verlaters-rocket-league-zwaarder-bestraft.jpg)A few changes have been made recently to the competitive matchmaking system from Rocket League. No one likes to lose, but it is better to finish a game.

Previously you got a time out of 15 minutes when you left a match early. Now comes a change.

## [](#levels)Levels

The new system has several “levels”. After the first offence you can not search for a new competitive match of Rocket League for the upcoming five minutes. When you leave a game again within 12 hours, there is a level at a higher time limit. See below the list of levels.

- Level 1: 5 minutes
- Level 2: 10 minutes
- Level 3: 20 minutes
- Level 4: 40 minutes
- Level 5: 60 minutes
- Level 6: 120 minutes
- Level 7: 24 hours

After the time limit has expired you can search again.

### [](#conditionally)Conditionally

If you do not break the rules within 12 hours, you go down a level. When you do so you will level up but not in a good way. If you are at level 7 and still continues, they may even impose other penalties on your account as a (temporary) ban on all online matches.

Psyonix thus hopes to counter the unsporting behavior and would like to stress that catching up on a score should always be possible.
