Nintendo Switch itself is a very beautiful and modern console, but unfortunately that still can not be said about the online service if offers. Here Nintendo remains a little behind the competition.
So you can not with a simple push of a button play online with friends. Many developers who make a game with an online feature are running into this situation as well.
Worms WMD
For example, the recently released Worms W.M.D. can be played online against other players. If someone from your friends list happens to be in the lobby, you can play with him or her. However, you can not directly invite a friend which is a huge loss.
Developer Team17 has let know that they are looking into options to solve this problem in the game itself.
We understand how important it is for Worms fans to play together, which is why we support up to six players both online and locally on Nintendo Switch. Contrary to some reports, Worms W.M.D does feature online play on Nintendo Switch and friends are able to find each other through the lobbies. However, we appreciate the frustration some may feel from not being able to directly invite their friends.
With no system-wide invite solution currently available, we are investigating how we can improve the situation for friends who want to play together online on Nintendo Switch, and are listening carefully to the feedback of our fans in the meantime.
Fear
We strongly hope that this is not a scenario where the Switch online service is going to be known for. Because then the success of this addition is gone even before it really begins to take shape.
However, we fear this quite a bit, because Nintendo simply does not have the best track record when it comes to online services. But in addition, it is also true that we have high expectations because of what the competition is doing.
If Nintendo can meet us at halfway, we dare to call it a success.
