Believe it or not, Nintendo has decided to update the firmware of the Wii U.
What to expect from this update?
The Wii U firmware now sits at version 5.5.3. Of course, don’t expect anything major. The only thing that Nintendo says in the patch notes is that “further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience”.
Other people from around the Wii U hacking scene have looked into it and noted that it seems to be mainly targeted at GDPR compliance and some minor fixes. Nothing which changes the state of how hackable the Wii U is at all.
So updating to it should be perfectly safe for those with a softmod of sorts.
