Nintendo – Lack of mainstream appeal for VR and 4K

Nintendo hasn’t been quiet on the VR front with the House Of Mario stating in the past that it thinks that VR isn’t quite ready and that VR titles aren’t yet ‘fun’ enough.

Nintendo France on VR and 4K

Well, Philippe Lavoué at Nintendo Of France has echoed these thoughts and doubts that VR appeals to the mainstream audience. Talking to French publication Les Numériques Lavoué states:

I doubt they can appeal to the mainstream. Consumers are not patient with entertainment if you’re not able to deliver an all-inclusive package.

As well as not being too fond of VR (at the moment), Lavoué offers his thoughts on the much talked about topic of 4K tech:

As far as 4K is concerned,” Lavoué queried, “is it useful to invest in a technology that has not been adopted by the majority? Where are 4K TVs now? Is it a good idea to invest in a technology before consumers do? We can’t invest in everything. And what novelty would we bring compared to our competitors?

What is your opinion, should the Nintendo Switch aim for VR and 4K?

Our opinion based on actual VR we have played with HTC Vive setups etc are ok but not at the level Nintendo would like to aim for. Even tough the Mario Kart VR is something which really caught our eye. As for 4K … meh … higher resolution is nice and all but I would always prefer a 60 fps 1080p over 4k 30fps (which is often the case).
