Playtonic recently released the excellent Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair which has many influences, but its primary one is the beloved Donkey Kong Country series.
Speaking to Spanish video game site 3DJuegos, Mark Stevenson and Steve Mayles talked about the potential future of the Yooka-Laylee franchise and it would seem the team is open to almost anything.
Yooka-Laylee’s future
I think we’ll keep working on Yooka Laylee in the future. Really, we could work on any kind of game, a racing game like Mario Kart or a shooter like Splatoon. We’ve never intended Yooka and Laylee to be the protagonists of all of our games.
On the future, we could make a spin-off with one of the many characters from Yooka Laylee, like Dr. Quack or Dr. Puzz. Being independent lets us follow whatever way we want and the one we think is right.
Well all we can say after our yet short time with the new iteration of the franchise is; keep these coming. Yooka-Laylee’s first adventure was not bad but the 2D one is simply so much better in terms of enjoyment and finesse.
