There is a new claim going around that Amazon has supposedly shelled out $600 million to acquire the Tomb Raider property.
Tomb Raider IP
This would cover video games, movies, television rights, merchandising, and other related items. Embracer Group, the company that now controls the Tomb Raider intellectual property after acquiring a number of the western studios that were once controlled by Square Enix, seems to have just finalized the purchase. After purchasing the rights to the Lord of the Rings series, this would be the second major acquisition that Amazon has made in recent years, if that it proves out to be genuine.
This has not been verified by Amazon as of yet.
Fellowship of fans noted the following on the matter;
“Embracer Group just recently sold their ‘Tomb Raider’ rights to Amazon for a deal that we can exclusively reveal as being approximately a 600 Million dollar overall package. This makes it Amazon’s second biggest purchase, after purchasing the television rights for ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.'” As a result, this puts the costs and rates that Embracer is perhaps searching for into proper context.
