A Spanish user on Twitter who is believed to have leaked Metroid Dread for Nintendo Switch before it was officially announced by Nintendo has stated on the platform that the developer MercurySteam is working on a new 2D Metroid game, which the user claims is currently scheduled for release in the year 2025.
MercurySteam is a Spanish video game studio that was responsible for the highly acclaimed game that was released for the Nintendo Switch. It would make perfect sense for Nintendo to continue MercurySteam’s involvement with the cherished franchise after the critical and financial success of Metroid Dread.
