The reveal of Sonic Frontiers as the next evolution of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise could be announced very soon. The recent trademark for Sonic Frontiers by SEGA along with a newly discovered web domain http://frontiers.sonicthehedgehog.com seems to suggest an announcement is due soon. But also the Sonic the Hedgehog Steam Curator page was updated as its number of Sonic the Hedgehog games went from 34 to 35.
Perhaps an announcement will be made at The Games Awards which is promising a number of brand new game reveals.
Sonic Frontiers development
Following the release of Sonic Forces (2017), Sonic Team began exploring multiple approaches for its next Sonic the Hedgehog game. In addition to celebrating the series’ upcoming 30th anniversary, Sonic Team also sought to define what a modern Sonic game should be and solidify the series’ direction for the next decade.
Sonic Team head and Sonic series producer Takashi Iizuka wanted the next Sonic game to inform future games, similar to how Sonic Adventure (1998) set a template that following games continued to emulate for 20 years.
So let’s hope this 3D Sonic will be a success.
