Detective Pikachu 2 – Active development

Detective Pikachu 2 – Active development

There is one movie that you may have forgotten about, and that is the sequel to the movie Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, which will be released in 2019. In point of fact, the sequel was going to be made public knowledge far before the first movie was ever shown in cinemas.

In development

After the announcement that there will be a sequel taking place four years ago, there has been no sign of Detective Pikachu 2 anywhere. In spite of this, Legendary Entertainment has not lost interest in the idea. Polygon was contacted by a representative of Legendary Entertainment, who shared both positive and negative news with the publication. The encouraging news is that “active development” of the film is still taking place. The employee was unable to provide any confirmation of who exactly is working on it, which is the sad bad news.

It is important to note that lately, the authors of Detective Pikachu, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez, said that while they would love to participate to the project, they are not presently participating in the creation of the film. This is something that should be noted. Samit went so far as to say that “it’s a continuous discussion that still is not over to this day.” Samit also claimed that the matter was “complex” and that it included “a lot of major studio and corporate Pokemon rights stuff that we are not privy to.”
