Niantic’s Pikmin mobile AR game scheduled for this year

Earlier this year Nintendo of America stated that Pokemon GO developer Niantic is developing a Pikmin augmented reality game.

Which really came out of the blue as it never really came anyone’s mind. During Nintendo’s latest financial results the company mentioned the Pikmin AR game for iOS and Android and said that the game is planned for release during the second half of the year.

Already beta-tested

Mobile gamers in Singapore had a chance to try out the app during a short beta test and it did sound rather promising. Hopefully we should hear more about it soon.

In our mobile business, we will focus on continuing to operate the applications that we have released to date, along with the application featuring Pikmin from Niantic that is planned for the second half of 2021, and work on ways to encourage more consumers to continue to enjoy playing these applications.

Shigeru Miyamoto noted

Niantic’s AR technology has made it possible for us to experience the world as if Pikmin are secretly living all around us. Based on the theme of making walking fun, our mission is to provide people a new experience that’s different from traditional games. We hope that the Pikmin and this app will become a partner in your life.
