Nintendo closing down California and Toronto offices

Nintendo seems to be downsizing some of its operations in the US as in an official statement, the company confirmed that it was closing its offices in California and Toronto.

In so doing, Nintendo will be moving more of its workers into its headquarters at Remond and Vancouver.

Nintendo’s statement on closing California and Toronto offices

Nintendo of America headquarters are in Redmond, WA, and Vancouver, BC. We are moving more of our employees and operations into those headquarters and will be closing small satellite offices in Toronto, ON, and Redwood City, CA, over time.

Devon Pritchard, Executive Vice President, Business Affairs and Publisher Relations for Nintendo of America (NOA), will assume interim leadership of Sales, Marketing and Communications following the departure of Nick Chavez. Ms. Pritchard will oversee strategy and execution of sales, marketing and communications across the U.S. and Canada.

The closures also include the resignation of Nick Chavez, the SVP of Sales and Marketing. Chavez has since moved on to join Kentucky Fried Chicken as its Chief Marketing Officer. Yeah that is not even a joke.

Nintendo did not reveal how many employees would be affected but several sources including the respected Kotaku have stated that about 100 workers from the California office already have been displaced.
