Nintendo’s Wii Shop Channel and DSi Shop both went down abruptly last week, raising fears that both digital stores may be shut down permanently. Finally, we have some fresh information about the matter.

In regards to the Wii Shop Channel and DSi Shop, Nintendo has issued an official statement to Kotaku. Specifically, the firm said that both were receiving maintenance, but did not explain on why this maintenance was being performed:

The Nintendo DSi Shop and Wii Shop Channel are now undergoing maintenance… At a later time, we will offer an update.

The Wii Shop Channel

The Wii Shop Channel is a defunct digital distribution service for the Wii video game console.

The service allowed users to purchase and play additional software for the Wii (called Channels), including exclusive games (branded WiiWare), and games from prior generations of video games (marketed with the Virtual Console brand).[2] The Wii Shop Channel launched on November 19, 2006, and ceased service operations worldwide on January 30, 2019
