Sad news; Kenichi Okuma, Super Smash Bros. Composer, has passed away

Super Smash Bros. Brawl came out in 2008. And ven though it happened 14 years ago, its legacy is still going strong. The characters you could play as for the first time in this game came back with the rest of the cast in Super Smash Bros. A lot of the songs from the game would also be used in later Smash games.

About Kenichi Okuma

Kenichi Okuma was one of the many people who wrote music and made arrangements for Super Smash Bros. Gyromite, Pokémon Gym/Evolution (Pokémon Red/Pokémon Blue), and Flat Zone 2 were all made by Okuma. All of these songs came back in Smash 3DS, Smash Wii U, and Smash Ultimate.

Okuma is no longer with us, which is sad. His official Twitter account confirmed that he died on July 22 from esophageal cancer. He had turned 56. Many people, including Sakurai himself, have said how sorry they are. Sakurai also said that Okuma’s legacy will live on in both Smash 4 and Smash Ultimate.

We want to wish Kenichi Okuma’s family and friends our condolences. May Okuma rest in peace, and may his wonderful contributions to video game soundtracks be remembered for a very long time.
