Sonic 2022 game devs spent a long time creating something challenging

Takashi Iizuka, head of SEGA‘s Sonic Team was interviewed a lot  between E3 and the trio of Sonic game announcements that arrived last month.

One of the 3 announced games, the unnamed Sonic *cough* Rangers *cough* game releasing in 2022, has been a hot topic. Sonic Stadium also got the chance to sit down with Takashi Iizuka and they talked about his hopes for the game.

Sonic 2022 details

Sonic Adventure laid the foundation for 20 years of Sonic titles after its release, so in the same way I really hope that this new title releasing in 2022 lays the foundation for the following future Sonic titles – that is the idea behind the challenge for the team.

The development team has been spending their time to do something new and challenging. Through a lot of trial and error the team is looking to present to everyone a new Sonic game, and I hope your warm support of their work can motivate them to really deliver against that challenge

All in all we can only hope that this 3D version does become at least a decent success. The blue hedgehog quite simply needs to have a solid 30th anniversary. If this one also flops … SEGA should perhaps rethink keeping him 2D only.
