The official Japanese Splatoon Twitter account tweeted an image wishing fans a happy new year. But eagle-eyed Inklings were quick to notice a hidden message!
みなさん、いかがお過ごしだろうか？
のんびりお休みされている方も、お忙しい方もいらっしゃるだろう。
クマサン商会も元日早々バイトを募集しているようだ。

Did you notice anything strange about the reflection? It suspiciously spells out SOS. But thaht;s not all; an even closer look at the waves reveals the full message: SAVE OUR SALMONS.
Does this hidden message have a meaning? Is it hinting at something upcoming in the world of Splatoon?
And if so what, expansion dlc, Splatoon 3 … we can only speculate at this point.
