The LEGO Group and Epic Games teaming to help shape the metaverse’s future

Epic Games and The LEGO Group have teamed together to help define the future of the metaverse for children, according to news released recently.

The organizations want to build a “immersive, artistically inspirational, and engaging digital experience for kids of all ages to enjoy together,” according to the press release. Children who interact with the metaverse will have access to “tools that will allow them to become confident creators and give fantastic play possibilities in a secure and positive setting,” and both sides want to do this “while keeping the wellness of children in mind.”

The LEGO Group and Epic Games have committed to three criteria to guarantee that the digital places they create provide interesting play experiences while remaining safe:

  • Protect children’s right to play by prioritizing their safety and well-being.
  • Protect children’s privacy by prioritizing their best interests.
  • Equip children and adults with tools that allow them to take control of their digital lives.

The LEGO Group’s CEO, Niels B Christiansen

“Kids like playing in both the digital and real worlds and can smoothly transition between them. We think that via digital experiences, they may acquire life-long abilities such as creativity, teamwork, and communication. However, it is our obligation to ensure that they are safe, inspirational, and helpful to everybody. We’re dedicated to protecting children’s rights to safe digital play in the same way we’ve maintained their rights to safe physical play for decades. We’re excited to collaborate with Epic Games to develop this exciting and fun future.”

Epic Games’ CEO and Founder, Tim Sweeney

“For over a century, the LEGO Group has captured the imaginations of children and adults through creative play, and we’re pleased to join forces to create a fun, engaging, and family-friendly area in the metaverse.”
