WSJ – Microsoft open to publish first party titles to other platforms

Usually companies like Sony and Microsoft, as they have put their own console onto the market, choose to keep titles they develop exclusively to the aforementioned own console. Sounds logical right?

It seemed that now in case of Microsoft there was going to be a change as the head of the Xbox division, Phil Spencer , in fact got more options from his superiors to appeal to more gamers.

Wait … what?!

The Wall Street Journal indicated that Phil has said that this also means that it might also be  possible that first party titles from Microsoft might venture to other platforms. It will hereby most likely first on other mobiles devices such as a smartphone or tablet go, but it seemed that even first-party games from Microsoft eventually could find there way to the Nintendo Switch or PlayStation 4.

Unexpected support or is it?

First of double what the f. It would be great news, but totally unexpected that a company like Microsoft in this way will do more in the gaming market. If it were so then we are starting  to really appreciate Microsoft more. Where we were previously pleasantly surprised with their position on cross device gameplay this is a step above and beyond because it could open the doors to so many possibilities;

The first thought on receiving this news on our floor was; Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisp  lets get some petitions going for them. We have in fact already expressed in so many places in the past that we would love to see the title of Moon Studios (a first-party developer Microsoft) come to the Nintendo Switch.

However, because we could not believe this news NintendoReporters waited to report about it. It is not logical for Microsoft to do this, we are talking about direct competitors and we can not imagine that they would take a SEGA position for lack of a better term and let their most exclusive titles venture to other parties let go.

Phil Spencer has also indicated that it is a misinterpretation from the Wall Street Journal;

Today we ship Minecraft on other platforms, we all know that, no plans to expand this right now.

It was too good to be true, but still it would be nice if there was ever some expansion as to what Minecraft started. If Microsoft on a yearly basis would go with one game and would let us vote on it … that in itself would be awesome now wouldn’t it? But we also do not really see that happening.
