In Japan, the Nintendo Switch sold more than 3.8 million times during the first year. That is more than three times more than the PlayStation 4 sold in its first year.

On Wednesday there will be weekly hardware and software sales from Japan. This week was a special edition, it became clear how often the Nintendo Switch was sold in its first year. Over the past week 45,083 Switch systems have been sold in Japan. The total number of sales came to 3,802,910 Switch systems!
Mind you, this is only about sales in Japan.
Compared to the competition
To put these figures in perspective: the PlayStation 4 sold ‘only’ 1,143,542 copies in its first year. The PlayStation 4 then managed to achieve a higher sales volume every year.
Whether the Nintendo Switch can also show the same trend is still a matter of waiting, but Nintendo started the first year in any case very well.
