Capcom about Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings Of Ruin development

Capcom revealed Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin for Nintendo Switch. While details about the game are still sparse, we now have some new details about the game’s development!

Ryozo Tsujimoto, recently spoke with Japanese media outlets Game Watch, 4Gamer, and Famitsu about the upcoming RPG.

In particular, he shared more about how the development team is approaching the game in contrast with the first Monster Hunter Stories on 3DS, and how it is aiming to appeal to more players than just younger audiences.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings Of Ruin development

  • The team is taking elements that were well-received from the battle system in Monster Hunter Stories, and elevating them with new mechanics.
  • Monster Hunter Stories 2 is more of an RPG and not an action game.
  • Monsters
    • There are even more monsters to befriend in Monster Hunter Stories 2
    • The team can’t say yet whether or not monsters from Rise will be in Stories 2, there will be some sort of crossover content. If players experience both titles, they will get something good in each game.
  • Appealing to more/new players
    • Players will be able to jump into Stories 2 without needing to play the first game
    • It’s important the game appeals to a larger player base, as the first game was aimed toward younger players
    • A lot of consideration went into the visuals and design of the characters, including their new, different proportions – these decisions were primarily to make the game appeal visually to more players.
