In 2021, Nintendo Switch sold 5.3 million units in Japan

According to new figures from Famitsu, Nintendo Switch sold 5.3 million copies in Japan in 2021. That figure is based on sales from December 28, 2020, to December 19, 2021, and includes all variants – regular, Lite, and OLED.

Hard and software sales

Year over year, the Nintendo Switch had a comparable performance. In Japan, the system is expected to sell 5.1 million copies by 2020.

To put things in context, the Nintendo Switch sold five times as many copies as the rest of the platforms combined. Last year, the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo 3DS each sold 1.1 million units. The PlayStation 5 sold 942,798 units, the PlayStation 4 sold 103,786 units, the Xbox Series X|S sold 95,598 units, and the Nintendo 3DS sold 28,224 units.

Monster Hunter Rise, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury were among the best-selling Nintendo Switch games. Last year, these games ranked first, second, and fourth on the best-sellers list. It’s also worth noting that the whole top 10 was made up of Switch games.
