About Metacritic

It all started with a simple concept in the summer of 1999: if a single score could encapsulate the many entertainment evaluations that were available for a movie or a video game, then that would be a useful thing to have. Metacritic was launched in January 2001 by its three founding members, who were all formerly practicing attorneys and were pleased to find a more constructive but less profitable use of their time. Metacritic has evolved over the past decade to reflect the founders’ experience in distilling many critics’ voices into a single Metascore, which is a weighted average of the most respected critics writing reviews online and in print.

The primary objective of Metacritic is to provide customers with the information they need to make educated choices on how they will spend their time and money on forms of entertainment. We are of the idea that several perspectives are superior to one, that the voices of users may be just as essential as those of critics, and that it is necessary to score opinions in order to make them easier to utilize.
