Motion Twin, the studio behind award-winning Metroidvania Dead Cells, recently made some interesting comments about their expectations in a GamesIndustry interview.

Steve Filby, the director of marketing at Motion Twin, told GamesIndustry that they were expecting to sell 20,000 copies of the game within its first three months in order to have enough funds to make another game.

However, they did not expect to sell that amount on its first day:

As the marketing dude, I was sitting by my crystal ball trying to work out, ‘Okay, what if we sell this many? How much money do we need to make another game after this?’. We worked out that we needed to sell 20,000 copies in the first three months, and that would give us enough time to maybe make another game. At launch we were reasonably confident that we could do somewhere between 10,000 and 20,000 copies. We had no idea we were going to do that in the first day.

Well we can without any shadow of a doubt say that Dead Cells was a massive succes. And we for one hope Motion Twin keeps tweaking at the game … because it’s that damn right awesome!
