Nintendo to support Nintendo Switch more than five or six years

Nintendo’s president Tatsumi Kimishima recently took part in an interview with Japanese financial paper Nikkei where he stated that Nintendo wants to continue selling the Nintendo Switch for more than five to six years.

Typically, Nintendo consoles don’t see a lifespan exceeding six years.

Nintendo Console support history

GameCube (2001 – 2006)
Wii (2006 – 2012)
Wii U (2012 – 2017)

It’ll be interesting to see just how Nintendo will continue to breathe new life into the console/handheld hybrid. When it becomes older will it still be able to be as successful as it is now? Because technology keeps moving and moving.

With the new ventures like Labo, extremely strong and continuous Indie support and the promise of great first party games like Pokemon in the near future, we shouldn’t have anything to worry about really but they have to keep the flow of momentum going constantly.
