During the Pokemon Direct, The Pokemon Company President Tsunekazu Ishihara briefly spoke about Pokemon Home, the service that will allow trainers to transfer their Pokemon to Nintendo Switch.

It doesn’t seem a lot of people are talking about it, but it was subtlety confirmed in the Pokemon Direct that Pokemon Home is a paid service.
In the Pokemon Direct the above screen mentioned that Pokemon Home is a paid service, so you can expect to pay a fee every month or year to continue using the service, similar to how Pokemon Bank worked.
Just to make that even more clear
For Pokemon fans, that means they will need a Nintendo Online membership to get the full functionality out of Sword/Shield (and even Let’s Go), along with a separate subscription to Pokemon Home (for storage of all Pokemon and quite possibly more robust trading features).
