Pokemon Sword and Shield is a smash hit worldwide but has accomplished something really noteworthy already in Japan.

Although Pokemon Sword and Shield were released 10 days ago in Japan, its lifetime sales have beaten Pokemon Let’s GO Pikachu/Eevee’s lifetime sales in Japan. Pokemon Sword and Shield sold 1.74 million copies in Japan in 10 days, as compared to Pokemon Let’s GO Pikachu/Eevee’s 1.66 million copies in 1 year.
We wonder how this will go worldwide.
Mainline vs spin-off
This obviously shows how much interest players have in a ‘real’ mainline Pokemon game. And let;s be honest about it. The game is not bad but has gotten a bunch of fan feedback. We call it feedback because backlash sounds so negative. Fans just want more from a future Pokemon title. But still they will buy it as the numbers surely show.
Let’s just hope GameFreak can do something with the feedback from the fans!
