Revising past handheld titles, currently more focused on new titles

Nintendo released an official transcript of the investor Q&A held during a recent financial results briefing held earlier this month.

During the Q&A, Nintendo’s President Shuntaro Furukawa fielded several questions about whether the company was intending to revisit or remake more past handheld titles and bring them over to the Nintendo Switch.

Past titles

With the success of recent Nintendo Switch remakes such as The Legend Of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee, as well as the release of the fully handheld Switch Lite, more updated re-releases of past handheld classics for Switch seem like a natural way forward at this stage of the Switch’s life.

Furukawa explained that Nintendo’s current focus is more on creating new kinds of games for the Nintendo Switch rather than releasing past titles, and they “can’t provide any further details” on the subject at this time.

Furukawa elaborated that when it comes to remakes, it is important to take into account whether the developers have enough passion about doing so, as well as whether they can add something new and fun that can enhance the experience.
