SEGA plans to upgrade Sonic Frontiers with new “combat styles”

In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Sonic Team creative officer Takashi Iizuka spoke on Sonic Frontiers.
SEGA debuted a decent teaser trailer at The Game Awards last month. But that and despite the fact that the game was officially unveiled in May, there is still a lot to discover about it.

Iizuka talked about Sonic Frontiers

With Sonic Forces, the team set out to develop a collection of high-speed Sonic action games that turned the traditional Sonic plot on its head, set in an universe where the wicked Dr. Eggman had triumphed.” We designed new Sonic locales and characters, such as the enemy Infinite, inside this new tale and planet. With Sonic Frontiers, we’re attempting to create a whole new type of Sonic action adventure. We’re extending the Sonic Universe even again, this time with new locations and features to offer a whole new style of open-zone experience.

Iizuka also discussed the difficulty of incorporating Sonic’s well-known speed and fighting abilities into open-zone areas:

We concentrated on taking Sonic to the next level and making sure he’s adequately portrayed as the fan-favorite character while also keeping his new form fascinating.

We pay special attention to all the minor Sonic features to ensure that Sonic’s unique speed and qualities stay constant throughout all game iterations,” said the team. We’ll add new fighting tactics in Sonic Frontiers to bring Sonic’s distinctive agility to the battlefield, and the new exploring possibilities clearly play into his famous speed.

Sonic Frontiers will be released on the Nintendo Switch in the Holiday of 2022. Later in the year, further details will be released.
