Super Mario Party – Cause of Joy-Cons shortage

Super Mario Party – Cause of Joy-Cons shortage

Super Mario Party seems, especially in Europe, to provide a huge boost in Joy-Cons sales!

No concrete figures are known, but several parties report that their stock of Joy-cons is starting to run out. One of those parties is Amazon. The Netherlands does not seem to know any problems on websites such as Nedgame and GameMania they still have the Joy-Cons to obtain normally.

Outside of Europe

In Japan too, according to NintendoLife, Joy-Con sales are going very fast. Not only did Super Mario Party sell there more than 142,000 times in the first week: the sales figures for the controllers have reportedly increased by at least 200%.

The cause is reasonably logical. Of course the popularity of Super Mario Part is unprecedented, but also because it is only playable with Joy-Cons. The Pro Controller is not supported and you can not play it in the normal handheld mode … it has to be released with the Joy-Cons.

So Nintendo has in fact enforced a hardware sale with their software. Neatly done Nintendo!

For the record; Super Mario Party has been in stores for the Nintendo Switch since October 5, but you’ve probably already played it!
