It’s not the first time Square Enix has used unusual game names. Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy are two of their HD-2D games on Nintendo Switch.
Tomoya Asano, the producer of the show, talked about the team’s thoughts in a recent interview. Asano said that Square Enix looks at “if the player can figure out what kind of game it is based on the title.” When you play Triangle Strategy, you play it from three different ways, and it’s a very strategic game! Square Enix put “Project” in the title so that there would be “some room to change the name.” Because it was well-liked by fans, the “Triangle Strategy” name stayed around for a while.

We usually spend a lot of time coming up with the names of the games.” It’s one of the things that we make sure to think about. Is the title enough to tell the player what kind of game it is? Look at Triangle Strategy. A triangle has three sides and then “strategy.” A strategy game that you can play from three different points of view is what this game is about. There are eight paths in Octopath Traveler, which is why it’s called “Octopath Traveler.”
Our goal was to find out what people thought about our project, “Project Triangle Strategy.” This way, we could change the name a little bit by having “Project” at the beginning. The audience liked the name, so we decided to keep it.
One of the things we do when we name games is that we have someone who speaks English well on our team. If the title is as weird or unique as Bravely Default or Octopath Traveler, I talk to them about it when we’re coming up with the name.

Each action you make will strengthen one of Serenoa’s three convictions—Utility, Morality, or Liberty—and affect who will join you and contribute their abilities to your army. Consider which beliefs could attract specific people, since each party member has a unique set of talents. Play the game many times to observe how different decisions affect the journey.
