Nintendo working with Illumination on Donkey Kong after the Super Mario Bros movie?

The Super Mario Bros. won’t be the only one enjoying the movie spotlight, if some recent rumors are to be believed.

According to inside sources speaking to Giant Freakin Robot, Nintendo and animation company Illumination will apparently be continuing their partnership to develop a Donkey Kong film as well after the Super Mario Bros movie has been completed.

DK, Donkey Kong

This new film will also see actor Seth Rogan in the role of Donkey Kong.

If this is true, that means Rogan will continue to voice the character beyond Illumination’s Super Mario Bros. movie. However, the source was not able to say if any other characters from the Super Mario Bros. movie were planned to appear in this rumored Donkey Kong film.

And after seeing the cast for the Super Mario Bros. movie feature the likes of Chris Pratt and Seth Rogan … well … we have no idea what think of this.

Keep in mind this are just rumors till this point though.

About Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong (Donkey or DK for short) is the main protagonist of the Donkey Kong series; the laid-back, stubborn, yet trustworthy hero of Donkey Kong Island and the leader of the Kong Family.

Though known as Donkey Kong, he is actually a brand-new character (explicitly mentioned in the Donkey Kong Country Instruction Booklet and a descendant of both the original Donkey Kong (Senior) and DK Junior; making him part of the third generation in the DK Lineage, and successor of Donkey Kong Senior and Junior after the former retired due to his numerous defeats at the hands of Mario and Stanley the Bugman.

The current Donkey Kong as we know him is designed by Rare, specifically Kevin Bayliss who also designed Diddy Kong.
