Although we had to wait for quite some time on the return of Samus Aran, it seems almost impossible to imagine a world without her now. Last year we were entertained with a remake for the 3DS in form of Metroid: Samus Returns and we can already look forward to Metroid Prime 4 for the Nintendo Switch.
Recently, a rumor was helped into the world with regard to a new 2D Metroid game, making the Metroid series seems more present than ever before.
2D Rumor
The rumors come from a member of ResetERA / NeoGAF that earlier information about Metroid Samus Returns. This all took place before the remake was announced at all.
The same user has indicated that a new 2D Metroid game is in the works, but it is still in early stages of development.
The platform is also not known, but it seems quite logical that this should go towards the Nintendo Switch. But Nintendo has sometimes thrown a curveball in the past so … who knows until we really know more about this rumor.
But would not it be awesome? A prequel or direct sequel to Super Metroid?
