Sequel to 1-2-Switch shelved as it tested badly

When the Nintendo Switch originally came out, one of its flagship titles was 1-2-Switch, a quirky title in which players used the Joy-con controllers to compete in a variety of mini-games.

Everybody’s 1-2-Switch?

Despite mixed reviews, the game supposedly performed well enough that Nintendo was planning a sequel. Multiple individuals familiar with the project have told Fanbyte journalist Imran Khan that Nintendo has been sitting on a sequel to the party game “Everybody’s 1-2-Switch,” which was greenlit after the first game sold 3.45 million copies.

According to these reports, the game was meant to be similar to the Jackbox Party Pack series, with up to 100 players using their cellphones to participate in a game show of minigame challenges presented by a guy in a rubber horse mask simply known as “Horse.” Musical Chairs, Bingo, and Spin The Bottle were listed among the mini-games.

Despite seeming promising on paper, the sources claim that the game performed “horribly” among playtesters. Many of them claimed that the mini-games were “boring” and “tedious,” and that they were too difficult to finish a whole round. Many trustworthy workers feared that publishing the game would “destroy the company’s image as a brilliant software producer,” which seems to be the reason Nintendo has been hesitant to release the game even after all these years.

The eventual destiny of Everybody’s 1-2-Switch is unknown at the time of writing. According to Khan’s sources, several recommendations regarding what to do with the game are circulating around Nintendo. Some have suggested that it be released as an add-on for the Switch Online service, while others feel that it should be released as a full-priced game regardless of the possible reaction.

In any event, we won’t know the whole tale until Nintendo officially announces the game, if it exists at all.
