My guess is your grind will remain. The only difference is you won't be able to choose which Pokemon your grinding for. The devs need to make it hurt so you open your wallet more. I have a feeling this will be a big anti consumer move to bolster sales from a game thats player base is shrinking. Only time will tell. I'm pretty worried this will be a move for the worst.
