Nintendo provided an update on the sales of its first-party Nintendo Switch titles from October to December 2021. The best-selling Pokemon games were Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl, which sold over 11.7 million copies in their first seven weeks. Also doing well are titles from earlier fiscal years. Nintendo has verified that 13 different titles have sold a total of 10 million copies or more.
Best selling Japanese Nintendo Switch game
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is also the best-selling game in Japan, with over 10 million copies sold, surpassing Super Mario Bros., which sold 6.81 million units in 1985.
Overall, first-party software sales for the quarter between October and December 2021 were at their greatest level since the debut of the Nintendo Switch. In the first seven weeks after its debut in November 2021, the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl games sold over 11.7 million copies worldwide, with sales continuing to rise.
Not only are new Nintendo Switch games selling well, but so are games published in past fiscal years. This, we feel, is due in part to the fact that a wide range of customers continue to play Nintendo Switch. Since the system’s introduction, 13 different games have sold 10 million or more copies worldwide. In fact, overall sales of Animal Crossing: New Horizons in Japan have surpassed 10 million copies, considerably exceeding the 6.81 million units sold in 1985’s Super Mario Bros., and it is the single most popular video game in Japan.
