Autechre – Originally asked for Metroid Prime’s soundtrack

Metroid Prime had a music duo called Autechre in its list of creators. In fact, both Sean Booth and Rob Brown were named as members of the group. But, even though fans had their ideas, no one ever knew for sure why they were there in the first place.

Working on Metroid

Well, that’s no longer true. Recently, Sean Booth took part in an AMA on Twitch. Booth was asked there what was going on. Booth said that Nintendo had asked them to work on the game’s soundtrack at first. Booth said that it was too bad that “Nintendo kind of messed it up and wanted their guy to do it.”

Booth also says, “I don’t know how much they were involved in the sound, or if they tried to make it sound more like us on purpose, but I don’t think so.” I’ve read that some people think it sounds a little bit like us, but I don’t agree. But it’s up to you.”

About Autechre

Rob Brown and Sean Booth, both from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, make up the English electronic music duo Autechre. Autechre has been around since 1987. They are one of the best-known bands signed to the UK electronic label Warp Records. Since their first full-length album, Incunabula, came out in 1993, all of their albums have been released by Warp Records. They first became known when they were included on Warp’s Artificial Intelligence compilation in 1992.

Influenced by styles like electro and hip hop from the 1980s, Autechre’s music has changed over the course of their career, from early melodic techno recordings to later pieces that are often thought of as abstract and experimental because of their complex composition and lack of style conventions. People have put their music in the category of “intelligent dance music” (IDM) from the 1990s, but Booth has called that name “silly.”
