Awesome Games Done Quick 2022 raised $3.4 million

This year’s Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) charity speedrunning marathon has come to an end!  AGDQ 2022, like previous years, was held virtually owing to the continuing COVID epidemic.

Despite this, fans helped the Prevent Cancer Foundation raise an incredible $3.4 million. The majority of the funds came from viewer contributions and a percentage of the sales from event items, with the remaining $200,000 coming from Twitch subs and bits. Donations are still rolling in, and final goods totals will almost certainly see a minor increase.

New records

Not only did this create a new record for online-only events, but it also broke the previous overall record of $3.16 million, which was achieved at AGDQ 2020, the last in-person event before COVID. When combined with all previous Games Done Quick events, a total of $37.5 million has been donated for different charities!

It’s somewhat unsurprising that the contribution amount has been slightly lower than normal since the changeover to virtual events, most likely owing to financial difficulties caused by the epidemic. But it just adds to the significance of this event’s milestone. AGDQ 2022 not only established a new overall record, but it also experienced a record pace of contributions, surpassing the record time required to reach $1 million.

AGDQ 2022

A variety of incentives, as usual, aided us in reaching these new heights. The three-person Pokémon Crystal Key Item Randomizer race involving Keizaron, 360Chrism, and Shenanagans provided a substantial boost early on. Shenanagans had disparaged the good reputation of the greatest Generation I starter, Bulbasaur, at one point during the race and offered a written apology if the event exceeded $900,000 by the conclusion of the race. Chat, being one to allow an injustice go unpunished, easily handled the task, prompting Shenanagans to offer a formal apology. Other big prizes included a $170,000 bonus run for Resident Evil Village and a $500,000 bonus run for Deltarune Chapter 2!

Overall, it’s been a fantastic week of fantastic runs and people getting together for a wonderful cause. It’s always a little sad to see things wrap up, but there’s always the VODs and future events to look forward to. All of the runs this week are worth watching (or rewatching), but if you’re looking for a short rundown of some of the finest Nintendo runs, we’ll have one for you soon. In terms of fresh material, there’s always Summer Games Done Quick, which will be coming in a few months.
