Bloomberg: Netflix planning for video games

Bloomberg published a report suggesting that Netflix could be expanding its catalogue to video games soon.

According to the report, Netflix has plans to start including video games on its service “within the next year” and has hired a new Vice President of Game Development Mike Verdu to lead the way.

Verdu previously served as Senior Vice President at EA Mobile, Vice President of VR/AR at Facebook, as well as CCO at Zynga, and will be reporting directly to Netflix’s CEO Gregory Peters in his new role.

Games are coming

To facilitate its move into video games, Netflix has also started posted several job openings for its “interactive division“.

These openings cite Black Mirror: Bandersnatch as an example of “interactive” content and “game-like” experiences Netflix hopes to create, suggesting that the company will not just be offering existing videogames, but also developing original titles of its own.

But for Nintendo Switch?

There are already a number of games related to Netflix available to play on Nintendo Switch, although the streaming service itself remains absent. With this in mind, it seems unlikely that any games from the company’s proposed gaming branch will be available on the Nintendo Switch. But who knows … that might change in the future.
