Bloomberg – Tencent buys Soleil

Bloomberg reported that Tencent quietly purchased Japanese developer Soleil. Soleil is best known for the Ninjala and who helped create Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes.

The move is a part of a talent acquisition to bolster Tencent’s game studios. The Chinese company has taken a whopping 90% stake in Soleil which has cost them more than 5 billion yen ($44 million). Tencent rarely takes over entire studios, so this is a first for a company which has generally made much smaller investments.

At Soleil, they create games to reawaken that lost enthusiasm, plunging the world into a whirlpool of raw excitement; the same excitement that triggers the sense of wonder and curiosity people of all ages have within.
