Two independent developers came up with an Animal Crossing knock off called Creature Street: Population Dwindling.
On the surface, the game is a somewhat trashy replica of Animal Crossing complete with animals, trees, and rocks. Though things quickly take a dark turn as you play as a detective helping the mayor’s secretary figure out who killed the mayor.

Created by the indie group FloTeam, Creature Street is a murder mystery where the player is a detective called to the town by the mayor’s assistant find out who killed the mayor. The similarities to the popular Nintendo Switch title are rampant with sentient animals, familiar characters, and a similar aesthetic.
Given the popularity of Animal Crossing, it’s likely Creature Street will generate a lot of attention and spit out some interesting memes over the next couple of months
