Earthworm Jim 4 seems cancelled

When it was revealed that Earthworm Jim would be making a comeback to the 2D platforming scene on modern platforms in the shape of Earthworm Jim 4, there was a great deal of excitement and speculation among gamers.

It would seem that the project passed away in obscurity at some point. Both the failure of the Intellivision Amico to materialize and the possibility that they would not have had access to the game’s official license are being held responsible for the game’s cancellation. The failure of the Intellivision Amico is one of the reasons that is being cited for the cancellation of the game. In July of the previous year, the CEO of the firm told IGN that work was still being done on the game system and that the trademark is still very much alive, despite the fact that we have not heard anything since then and that it is doubtful that it would be published. Earthworm Jim was also going to have his own animated series, however that project has also been shelved without any progress being made.

The end of Earthworm Jim?

They tried to sweep EWJ 4 under the rug without drawing attention to themselves, in the hopes that no one would notice. You start to take notice after you’ve been waiting for the same thing for a quarter of a century. LOL. So either they didn’t have the license to do it, in which case Interplay gave them a slap on the wrist (worst case scenario), or everything went wrong with the Amico, in which case they opted to call it quits and walk away from the deal. I don’t know the answers, and neither does anybody else. We are all in the dark.
