ENLBufferPwn – Multiple systems, multiple titles, but being taken care of

Several titles for the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo 3DS, and the Nintendo Wii U have been determined to include a critical flaw that is known as ENLBufferPwn.

It was determined that PabloMK7, Rambo6Glaz, and Fishguy6564 were responsible for the discovery. The vulnerability, which had been discovered for the first time in 2021, had already been disclosed to Nintendo.

More about ENLBufferPwn

The fact that a victim’s device may be readily controlled by an attacker makes the vulnerability particularly critical. Simply engaging in a session of online gaming with a potential adversary may accomplish this goal. The fact that it was given a score of 9.8 out of 10 on the CVSS 3.1 calculator indicates how severe the issue is.

When combined with additional OS vulnerabilities, the attacker has the potential to gain complete control of the machine. They might potentially steal confidential information or make audio or video records of the conversation.

Do you remember the recent release of the version 1.2 update for Mario Kart 7, which took place only recently? After such a long period of time, many people were taken aback when they discovered that the game had been updated. It has come to light that Nintendo had intentions of addressing the ENLBufferPwn vulnerability.

Nintendo is on it

As can be seen, Nintendo has begun to take action in response to the problem. The flaw was patched in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe version 2.1.0, Animal Crossing: New Horizons version 2.0.6, ARMS version 5.4.1, Splatoon 2 version 5.5.1, and Super Mario Maker 2 version 3.0.2. Mario Kart 7 was the only game in which it was not patched. It also seems to have been addressed with the recent releases of Nintendo Switch Sports and Splatoon 3, respectively. However, the affected Wii U games, such as Mario Kart 8 and the first iteration of Splatoon, have not been patched, and it is unknown whether or not any patches are currently being developed. It is also possible that the vulnerability has not yet been patched in all games, which means that it might potentially affect other games.
