Bandai Namco – Compromised but investigating damage

Bandai Namco was attacked, according to various sources, by a well-known ransomware gang, who claimed to have gained secret material and threatened to disclose it if their demands were not satisfied.

Bandai Namco has already published an official statement stating that they had “unauthorized access” and that they are examining the scope of the breach. Worryingly, they indicate that there is a “possibility” that client information was compromised, despite the fact that they have now taken efforts to limit access and will release more data once their investigation is completed.

Bandai Namco’s statement

“On July 3, 2022, Bandai Namco Holdings Inc. verified an illegal third-party access to the internal systems of various Group firms in Asian countries” (excluding Japan),

We took precautions such as limiting access to the servers once we verified the illegal access to prevent the harm from spreading.

Furthermore, it is possible that customer information relating to the Toys and Hobby Business in Asian areas (excluding Japan) was included in the servers and PCs, and we are now determining the status of the leakage, the breadth of the harm, and the source.

We will continue to examine the cause of this occurrence and will provide the findings as soon as possible. We will also collaborate with other entities to boost security throughout the Group and take preventative actions.

We sincerely apologize to everyone affected for any problems or anxieties that this event has created.”

Rumors concerning Bandai Namco’s likely future intentions for its games have started to surface online, as predicted, and some of them may have stemmed from this data breach.
