Fan reimagines Pokemon Sword/Shield as a Game Boy game

The Pokemon mainline games have changed a lot since the series first launched in 1996, and many fans often find themselves nostalgic for the somewhat simpler days of black and white sprites with crisp chiptune music.

Among them is Japanese YouTube user ハヤテ京雲寺, who decided to reimagine the latest games Pokemon Sword And Shield in the style of the original games.

The project came about after they were struck with a desire to hear Pokemon Sword And Shield’s music in Game Boy Style.

From passion to creation

I was listening to the BGM of the town of Sword & Shield I wanted to listen to Game Boy style! I couldn’t find it when I looked for it, so I made it myself!

And as such things tend to go … one thing led to another and led to the creation of this impressive 19 minute long video that not only includes Game Boy renditions of the music, but de-made sprites and visuals for many of Pokemon Sword and Shield’s locations.
