Nintendo recently announced that it is going to make an animated film in collaboration with Illumination in which Super Mario plays the leading role.
The animation is produced by Chris Meledandri, CEO and founder of Illumination, and none other than Mr. Mario himself: Shigeru Miyamoto!

No information has yet been provided about the content and course of the Super Mario movie. It is co-financed by film studio Universal Pictures. This society will also ensure that the whole is conjured up on the silver screen worldwide.
Nintendo sees the projection as part of their goal of getting people to connect with their IP outside video games in order to have a smile on the face of people around the world.
Earlier it was already rumored that such a movie would come. Thus, in November, Wall Street Journal stated that Illumination and Nintendo had almost reached an agreement.
