Netflix – BioShock movie announced

BioShock is a popular video game series noted for its realistic landscapes and compelling storylines. It’s the type of game that Hollywood filmmakers fantasize about developing, but previous efforts have always failed. It seems like this is going to change as Netflix officially revealed that they are developing a BioShock film, about 15 years after the original game was released!

A BioShock movie was announced by Netflix

Netflix revealed a BioShock movie collaboration with 2K and Take-Two Interactive in a series of tweets on the NetflixGeeked account. The news was posted with a picture of the original game and the game’s iconic catchphrase: Would you kindly?

Film Stories exposed the existence of the Netflix BioShock movie last week, leading to this formal announcement. Netflix had filed trademarks for BioShock, BioShock 2, and BioShock Infinite, as well as Rapture in general, at the time. It’s plausible that Netflix is planning a whole series of BioShock films, if the first one is a success.

It’s unknown if BioShock creator Ken Levine is involved in this project at this moment. He has already been linked to prior efforts to adapt the game for the big screen. This adaptation was said to be only weeks away from going into production, however there were issues about the budget and the film’s classification.

It’s uncertain whether this updated version of the film will get the R classification that Levine desired.
