Nintendo has given information about how the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo WiiU eShops will be shut down.
As announced on Twitter, the WiiU and 3DS eShops will close for good on March 27, 2023. Players will no longer be able to add money to their eshop accounts a few months early, on August 29, 2022. Users are encouraged to spend all of the money in their accounts before the shops close for good.
Updates on the discontinuation of #eShop for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS family systems:
– As of 29/08/2022, it will no longer be possible to add funds.
– As of 27/03/2023, purchases will no longer be available.

Details on the closure
After March 27, 2023, you won’t be able to buy anything on the Wii U eShop or the Nintendo 3DS eShop. Also, you won’t be able to download free content, like demos of games. Also, as this date gets closer, the following services will stop working:
After August 29, 2022, you won’t be able to use a Nintendo eShop Card to add money to a Wii U or Nintendo 3DS Nintendo eShop account. But until March 27, 2023, you will still be able to use download codes.
We recommend that everyone use up any Nintendo eShop balance on their Nintendo 3DS or Wii U before Monday, March 27, 2023, when the ability to buy content will end.
Users who link their Nintendo Network ID funds (used on Nintendo eShop for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS) with the funds tied to their Nintendo Account (used on Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch) can use the shared funds to buy content on any of these consoles and systems until March 27, 2023. After that, you can only use the money to buy things for Nintendo Switch.
The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch will not change.
Changes to the Nintendo eShop for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will happen at the same time in software where you can buy things, like StreetPass Mii Plaza, the Theme Shop, and Nintendo Badge Arcade.
Even after March 27, 2023, and for the foreseeable future, Wii U consoles and Nintendo 3DS systems will still be able to redownload games and DLC, get software updates, and play online.
Note: Fire Emblem Fates will stop being sold one month earlier, on February 28, 2023. Fire Emblem Fates will still have DLC until March 27, 2023. This includes story paths that can be accessed after Chapter 6.
