The Pokémon Company International has announced that the 2022 Pokémon World Championships will be held in ExCeL London from August 18 to 21, 2022.
Top Pokémon players from the video games Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokkén Tournament DX, Pokémon UNITE, and Pokémon GO will unite to battle for the title of World Champion.
Their main concern continues to be the safety and well-being of our competitors, organizers, workers, local communities, and partners.
About Pokemon World Championships 2022
The Pokémon World Championships are the highest level of Pokémon competition. The Pokémon World Championships are held in August and feature the top Pokémon players from across the world. Players will fight for nearly $500,000 in prizes, the title of Pokémon World Champion, and return invites to the World Championships the following year.
Pokémon TCG, video game, and Pokémon UNITE players gain Championship Points at events during the Championship Series season to qualify for Worlds. Players of the Pokémon Trading Card Game and video games must earn a certain amount of Championship Points in order to be invited, which is determined by their geographical Regional Zone and age division. The top players will progress to Day 2 automatically, and some will be given a prize for traveling to the tournament. Day Two of Worlds will be held on Friday, due to the growth of Worlds to a four-day tournament in 2022. On Thursday, those who qualify for the first day will begin playing. Additional invites that move the player directly to Day 2 of Worlds but do not include travel will be made available at a later date.
Throughout the season, Pokémon GO and Pokkén Tournament DX competitors compete in Qualifier events for a straight admission to Worlds. In addition, the top performers in these Qualifiers will earn a travel grant to attend the event.
