SEGA: Currently in an organizational shift, new Sonic announcement soon?

Sonic the Hedgehog is going to be 30 years old very soon. There has been a lot of merchandising to celebrate the occasion, but one thing that has been missing has been the signs of a new Sonic game.

We have gotten a little more information on what has been going on, thanks to a Famitsu interview with SEGA Chief Strategy Officer Shuji Utsumi.

Famitsu Utsumi interview highlights

Utsumi acknowledged that games have been making more appearances on mobile devices than consoles lately, and says that “we’re currently in the middle of an organizational shift, and we’re currently revising various lineups [of titles]”.

Once the organizational shift is done, the gaming output as of late should change. However, you may not notice the changes immediately.

Utsumi said that things are going to get going gradually from this point forward, and you should see things “more steadily” next year. He also said that “a new Sonic game announcement might be coming soon”, but he didn’t say anything more than that.

What type of Sonic game would you look forward to the most?
Personally I hope we get a second edition of Sonic Mania as that was awesome. And well 3D Sonic has not gone well the last few years.
